Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze efficacy and safety of presbyopia treatment in myopic patients using SUPRACOR algorithm with Excimer laser. Dominant eye was treated with a wavefront-guided aspheric algorithm (Zyoptix PTA) [ZPTA], while the non dominant eye was treated with a Myopic Supracor algorithm [MS]. Refractive target was plano in dominant eyes and -0.25 diopters (D) in non-dominant eyes.

Setting:

Instituto de Oftalmologia Castanera, Barcelona, Spain

Methods:

Prospective study of 30 eyes of 15 patients with a mean age of 49.1 years (min 43 / max 58). Preoperative manifest refraction was -3.61±1.24D (spherical equivalent [SE]). Distance (DUCVA) and near (NUCVA) uncorrected visual acuity, refraction, best-spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), asphericity and comatic aberrations were analyzed.

Results:

Six months postoperatively, mean SE was -0.21±0.55D in ZPTA eyes and -0.52±0.35D in MS eyes. Binocularly uncorrected 0.2 logMAR or better was achieved by 100% of the patients for distance, and 88% of the patients for near. Monocularly 100% of ZPTA treated eyes achieved 0.2 logMAR of UCDVA and 50% of UCNVA. In MS eyes this vision was achieved by 63% for distance and 79% for near.

Conclusions:

Myopic Supracor algorithm seems to be an affective and safe treatment for the correction of presbyopia in myopic eyes, giving good distance and near uncorrected vision.
