Deliberate monovision to eliminate acquired diplopia

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To develop a novel approach to operating upon the patient with bilateral cataracts and acquired diplopia.

Setting:

Cincinnati Eye Institute

Methods:

Deliberate monovision was achieved by creating significant anisometropia

Results:

A series of a dozen patients underwent deliberate monovision with more than 3 diopters of anisometropia both distance and near visual recovery was achieved with a significant reduction in the symptomatic diplopia.

Conclusions:

Deliberate anisometropia to be considered in patients with permanent acquired diplopia whose cataracts justify surgical intervention.
