Purpose:

To report refractive outcomes of cataract surgery in keratoplasty patients with toric intraocular lens implantation for high postoperative astigmatism

Setting:

Ophthalmology Dapartment, District Railway Hospital, Panewnicka 65, Katowice, Poland

Methods:

22 patients (22 eyes) with previous penetrating keratoplasty with high postoperative astigmatism (mean 6.73 D) underwent cataract surgery. VA, postoperative complications were evaluated

Results:

The preoperative subjective cylinder ranged from -2.0D to -12.0D (mean 6.75D). The follow-up was from 30 days up to 2.5 years (mean 1.2 years). Preoperative BCVA ranged from 0.02 to 0.3 (mean 0.15). ECD was at least 1000 cells/mm2. Postoperative astigmatism was from 0.5D to 6.5D (mean 2.3D). Postoperative BCVA was from 0.1 to 0.6 (mean 0.47). In two cases secondary surgical alignment of axis was performed. Transient corneal edema was observed in 3 cases. Intraocular pressure elevation was noticed in 1 case

Conclusions:

Toric additive IOLs may be useful in reducing high astigmatism and anisometropia and increasing BCVA in patients after penetrating keratoplasty
