Abstract Details

Purpose:

Cataract surgeons have made great strides in cataract surgery by achieving near emmetropia post operatively.There has been vast advances in Biometry ,Lens technology and Calculation of Lens power ,still we encounter Refractive surprises post cataract surgery.We present ways to manage such unexpected surprises.

Setting:

Alakh Nayan Mandir ,Eye Institute,India

Methods:

Ten unhappy patients with post operative error of plus minus two diopters were taken in this series and were managed by three by Lens exchange,three by surface ablation,three by piggy back implantation and one by lens flip as it was reversly implanted.

Results:

All patients were within half a dioptre post operatively and there was no intraoperative complications.

Conclusions:

All the advances in technology has made life easier for surgeons as well as patients,still we encounter refractive surprises ,meticulous work up and proper counselling and appropriate technique selected to deal with such cases can lead to great patient satisfaction as shown in this study.
