Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze remote results using Relex technology for myopia correction.

Setting:

Federal State Institution Clinical Hospita, Russia,Moscow

Methods:

156 patients (312 eyes) with myopia of -3.0 to -10.0, astigmatism from -1.0 to - 5.0 D were operated. The minimal central corneal thickness must be not lees then 500 mkm according to Visante OCT (Carl Zeiss). In this research patients were divided into two groups. The first group inclouded 76 patients (152 eyes) with spherical equivalent (SE) of -6.73 D. They were underwent ReLEx technology using Carl Zeiss Meditec (CZM) VisuMax(®) femtosecond laser system. The second group - 80 patients (160 eyes) with SE of -5.5 D were treated by wavefront-optimized Femto-Lasik. Carl Zeiss Meditec (CZM) VisuMax(®) femtosecond laser system was used for creation corneal flap with a specified thickness of 110 microns. In addition, for Femto-LASIK, MEL 80 Excimer Laser (CZM) was used for ablation. Visual acuity, spherical equivalent (SE) and corneal tomography were measured before and 1 week, 1,3,6 and 12 months after surgery.

Results:

In a year, the everage meaning SE in the RELEX group - 0,3 ± 0,12 D, in Femto-LASIK group - 0,4 ± 0,16 D. In Relex group after surgery 98% of patients had refraction ± 0,25 D from given refraction and Femto-LASIK group - 97% of patients. Refractive surgery results: efficiency keratorefractive surgery in the Relex group was 98.68%, in the Femto-LASIK group - 97.50%. Predictability of technology Relex was 98.68% , in the Femto-LASIK group - 97.50%. Safety: not in any case there were no serious specific complications related to the keratorefractive surgery. In all cases there was no any decrease best corrected visual acuity more than one line in comparison with preoperative. Stability results keratorefractive surgery in the Relex group was 98% in the Femto-LASIK group 96.15%.

Conclusions:

elex technology has shown a high level of security, stability, efficiency and predictability compared to Femtolasik technology, and stability, even surpasses it. A new method of choosing the energy parameters and cutting parameters simplify and improve efficiency of operations.
