Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual and optical performances of cataract eyes after phacoemulsification and trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) (AT LISA tri 839MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec) implantation.

Setting:

C.M.A Centro Microchirurgia Ambulatoriale Via Donizetti 24 , Monza (Italy)

Methods:

20 eyes of 10 patients (mean age: 70.93 ± 4.54 years) underwent uncomplicated phacoemulsification and trifocal IOL (AT LISA tri839MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec) implantation. Preloaded IOL was implanted using a BLUEMIXS 180 injector. Postoperatively, the following visual and refractive parameters were measured: distance (5m) near (30cm) and intermediate (70 cm) visual acuity, corneal topography and aberrometry, contrast sensitivity and defocus curve. Regular follow-up examinations were performed up to 180 days after surgery.

Results:

Preoperative distance Uncorrected Visual Acuity (UCVA) was 0.32 ± 0.24. At six months, distance UCVA was 0.98 ± 0.05, monocular near vision was 20/25 and binocular near vision 20/18. Monocular intermediate vision was 20/33.75, binocular intermediate vision 20/20.5.

Conclusions:

AT LISA tri 839MP provided satisfactory distance and near as well as intermediate visual acuity. This lens also improved quality of vision through remarkable diffraction efficiency while maintaining contrast sensitivity.
