Purpose:
To study the difference of Visian ICL length calculated mainly based on Orbscan and Pentacam for Chinese patients with high myopia.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Xinhua Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China
Methods:
We had a shift from Orbscan to Pentacam for the calculation of Visian ICL length. 167 eyes of 85 patients were measured with Orbscan, with a mean age of 28.5 years and the mean spherical equivalent was -14.04 ± 4.48D. 160 eyes of 84 patients were measured with Pentacam, with a mean age of 29.3 years and the mean spherical equivalent was -15.08 ± 5.07D.
Results:
The mean size of Visian ICL calculated with Pentacam were longer than that with Orbscan (P = 0.000). In the Orbscan group, ICL mean length was 118.17 ± 3.07 mm (110mm: 2eyes; 115mm: 67 eyes; 120mm: 88 eyes; 125mm: 10 eyes). In the Pentacam group, ICL mean length was 119.84 ± 3.09 mm (115mm: 33 eyes; 120mm: 99 eyes; 125mm: 28 eyes). The vaults were higher in the Pentacam group than Orbscan group ( 442± 126?m, 487± 147?m, P = 0.000). In the Orbscan group, after Visian ICL implantation, the IOP was higher than the preoperative IOP ( pre-op: 14.4± 3.2mmHg; post-op: 15.3± 2.7mmHg, P = 0.000), the corneal endothelial cells were not changed (pre-op: 2883± 269; post-op: 2868± 234, P = 0.491). In the Pentacam group, after Visian ICL implantation, the IOP was not changed ( pre-op: 15.3± 2.4mmHg; post-op: 15.1± 3.2mmHg, P = 0.395), the corneal endothelial cells decreased (pre-op: 2840± 217; post-op: 2791± 219, P = 0.002).
Conclusions:
For determing the length of ICL Visian, Pentacam tends to choose longer ICL than Orbscan.
