Purpose:
To show a simple and interesting procedure to reposition any kind of dislocated PCIOL; other management options such as exchange or removal of the lens are minimized due to the practicability of the technique.
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department, Versilia Hospital, Lido di Camaiore, Italy
Methods:
42 dislocated IOLs (due to post traumatic, pseudoesfoliatio and cataract surgery complications) in anterior and posterior chamber were repositioned by scleral fixing of their haptics. The capsular bags were removed. Vitrectomy was performed in all cases. A 2.2 mm corneal cut was done. No exchange of any IOL was necessary no matter the different kind of haptics.
Results:
No surgical complication occurred. Mean astigmatism was 1.25 +- 0.75 dioptres. The mean best corrected visual acuity was 18-20/20 in 28 patients (66.6%), 14-16/20 in 10 patients (23.08%) and less than 10/20 in 4 patients (9.5%).
Conclusions:
In the AA"s opinion repositioning of any kind of dislocated IOL is possible with no need to remove or exchange it. The simple procedure provides great advantage: little cuts, little problems.
