Abstract Details

Purpose:

to describe key surgical pearls for success Raindrop Near Vision Inlay (Revision optic), including the early experience with Cumulus, the Inlays new delivery system that aims to improve the interface management and the positioning of the lenticule.

Setting:

Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Brest. Brest, Cedex, France

Methods:

surgery with the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is similar to LASIK based on a flap of 150 microns and works in changing corneal curvature that allow early visual recovery and improved patient satisfaction. The new delivery system (Cumulus, Revision Optics, Lake Forest, USA) is easy to use and allows delivery of the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay in the center of the pupil in a single maneuver.

Results:

The current delivery system requires a two-hand maneuver for deploying the inlay in the stromal bed, under a 150 microns flap created with the femtosecond laser. Our initial experience consists of 6 emmetropes with at least 6-months follow-up. Monocularly, all treated eyes achieve J3 or better UCNVA and 0.6 or better UCDVA. Binocularly all subjects can see 0.8 or better distance and J2 or better near. The new delivery system (Cumulus) is easy to use and delivers the Near Vision Inlay centered in one step.

Conclusions:

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is a new and innovative device for the surgical correction of presbyopia. A careful surgical technique associated with adequate patient selection appears to provide successful results (binocular 0.8 and J2 or better uncorrected vision). Cumulus allows new surgeons to deliver the inlay in one step, shortening the initial learning curve and leading to a better transparency of the interface.
