Purpose:
To evaluate and compare intermediate vision in patients after refractive lens exchange with implantation of AT LISA tri 839MP and FineVision trifocal intraocular lens (IOL)
Setting:
Speciality Eye Hospital "Svjetlost", Zagreb, Croatia
Medical School, University of Rijeka, Rijeka, Croatia
Methods:
Refractive lens exchange was performed to 40 presbyopic patients. They were dived in two groups depended on type of trifocal lens that was implanted. In the first group, AT LISA tri 839MP IOLs were implanted to 20 patients (40 eyes) and in the other group FineVision trifocal IOLs were implanted also to 20 patients (40 eyes). We measured uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UCIVA) at 63 and 80 cm in both groups at 100% and 10% contrast level. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UCNVA), visual disturbances and subjective satisfaction were also measured and compared between groups. Follow up was at least six months
Results:
Patients in both groups achieved good UCIVA at 63cm and 80cm at both contrast levels without significant differences between groups. All eyes could read better than 0,5 at both distances and contrast levels. Uncorrected near and distance visual acuities were also satisfying, all eyes achieved 0,8 and J2 or better, without significant differences between groups. Halo and glare were less than 10% in both groups. Subjective satisfaction was high in both groups
Conclusions:
Refractive lens exchange with implantation of trifocal lens gives high level of spectacle independence with low rate of visual disturbances. There were no significant differences between AT LISA tri 839MP IOL and FineVision IOL
