Session Title: Intraocular correction of presbyopia : multifocal IOLs, Monovision
Session Date/Time: Tuesday 08/10/2013 | 14:00-16:00
Paper Time: 14:24
Venue: Elicium 1 (First Floor)

Co Author(s): : E. Stųle Gonzalez-Meijome
Purpose:
Compare and evaluate two of the most commonly used multifocal RLE based on Memira Clinical Advisory Board Testprotocol. This includes the use of a subjective questionaire.
Differences in patient satisfaction levels between patients needing enhancement with eximer after RLE and those who do not need will also be analyzed.
The study highlights the importance of patient communication when working with RLE.
Setting:
147 non-selected private patients at Memira AS (Norway) are enrolled into the study which involves 4 Memira clinics in Norway with extensive co-managment between ophtalmologist and optometrist . The role of the optometrist is to set the correct individual and product specific expectation level besides regular optometric work.
Methods:
Two groups of patients that have had RLE surgery at Memira AS are evaluated at minimum 12 months observation time to find their satisfaction levels and refractive status.
Memira Clinical Advisory Board Testprotocol subjective questionaire was sent to 300 patients via regular mail. No economical benefits where offered in return for their feedback to Memira.
Refractive data are collected form Memira`s electronic patient file system.
Results:
Similarities and differences in patient satisfaction levels and refractive status between patients implanted with ReSTOR and Lentis will be presented.
Results are divided in 3 groups pr type of RLE: total, those who needed eximer after RLE, those who did not need eximer after RLE.
Patients subjective levels of spectacle independency, night and day time driving ability, subjective levels of halo/glare, need for extra reading light, overall satisfaction and will to recommend RLE to a friend will be presented.
Refractive and visual acuity data will be shown as average numbers and by spread diagrams for pre, post RLE and post laser after RLE for those in need for Eximer after RLE.
Conclusions:
Even if there are differences in the subjective response for certain areas as need for reading light between ReSTOR +3 and Lentis MPlus the overall satisfaction level and will to recommend to a friend is equall when satisfaction levels are set correct.
