Purpose:
To determine the safety and efficacy of two different femtosecond laser cataract platforms, The Technolas TPV Victus and the Alcon LenSX.
Setting:
Sydney, Australia
Methods:
60 patients were carefully assessed and selected to have cataract surgery. They were randomized to have the initial part of their surgery including incisions, capsulorhexis and lens fragmentation by either Platform 1 (TPV Victus) or Platform 2 (LenSX). Intraoperative Phaco time and power was recorded and uncorrected distance and near vision as well as any complications/difficulties were reported.
Results:
At the 3 months post operative visit, both groups demonstrated on average an improvement in uncorrected distance vision to 6/7.5. There was no difference in rates of complications between the two platforms
Conclusions:
Both femtosecond laser cataract platforms resulted in patients with effective distance and/or near vision. Both Platforms also reduced phaco time and power by a comparable amount.
Financial Interest:
