Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the post-operative visual outcomes for distance, intermediate and near with femtosecond laser cataract surgery and implantation of premium IOLs (Lentis Mplus) at 1 day, 1 week and 1 month.

Setting:

Single center study by single surgeon at VISTA Eye Specialist, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Methods:

This is a non randomized prospective study. Exclusion criteria included retina and corneal pathology, advanced glaucoma and small fixed pupils. LENTIS Mplus IOL and LENTIS Mplus Toric IOL had been used in this study. Each group has 30 eyes. The mean age for LENTIS Mplus is 60.43 ± 6.52 (45 to 70) and 55.93 ± 6.19 (47 to 69) for LENTIS Mplus Toric. Post op Uncorrected Visual Acuity (UCVA) and Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) for distance and near were taken at 1 day, 1week and 1 month. Subjective assessment for functional intermediate vision based on ability to use the computer and subjective questionnaire on presence of higher order aberrations such as glare, halo and starburst were taken. Presence of cornea oedema was assessed by slit lamp during 1 week and 1 month visit.

Results:

At 1 month the post operative mean UCDVA for LENTIS Mplus eyes were 0.90 ± 0.15D, 97% achieved 6/9 (20/30) or better; mean UCNVA 0.45 ± 0.07D, 100% were N5 (J3) and better; MRSE was -0.22 ± 0.32D. The 1 month post operative mean UCDVA for LENTIS Mplus Toric eyes were 0.91 ± 0.14D, 97% achieved 6/9 (20/30) or better; mean UCNVA 0.48 ± 0.09D, 93% were N5 (J3) and better; MRSE was -0.13 ± 0.37D. The subjective assessment showed satisfactory outcomes in computer usage and absence of glare and halo. The slit lamp eye assessment showed clear cornea at 1 week and 1 month.

Conclusions:

The Visual Acuity and Refraction remained stable for distance, near and intermediate till 1 month of study. Subjectively none complained of presence of higher order aberrations such as glare, halo, and star bursting. Excellent stable visual outcomes for distance near, intermediate were obtained with femtosecond laser cataract surgery and implantation of premium IOLs (Lentis Mplus).
