Purpose:
To investigate the safety and efficacy of the Victus (Baush+Lomb Technolas) femtosecond laser -assited cataract surgery results and compare to conventional phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
Setting:
Istanbul Surgery Hospital
Methods:
The results of first 100 eyes of 55 patients performed cataract surgery with Victus fs laser retrospectively evaluated. Cataract surgery involved anterior capsulotomy and lens fragmentation in different patterns. The surgery completed by standard phacoemulsification and implanting of an intraocular lens. Peroperative and postoperative complications and visual results recorded. The patients followed first day, 1st week,1 st month and 3rd month after the surgery. All the surgeries performed by same surgeon(SG).
Results:
%95 patients uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity improved significantly and mean Va was 0.63 or better.5 eyes had Senile Macular Degeneresans and the visual acuity remained below 0.4 .No posterior capsule rupture happened but in 2 eyes small anterior capsular rupture occured do to incomplete cut by femtosecond laser.Effective Phaco Time (EPT) was significantly shorter then convencional phaco time.(p>0.001)Distant and near visual gain found similar in both groups. But Victus patients first day visual acuity was better then the conventional patients.
Conclusions:
Cataract surgery with Victus femtosecond laser is safe and effective as conventional cataract surgery. The advantages are gaining precise anterior capsulotomy, shortening EPT and faster recovery. Other advantages of Victus fs is versatility of making corneal incisions and lasik flaps, intracorneal tunels, Intracor intrastromal presbyopia treatment and other corneal procedures.
