Purpose:
To assess optical quality outcome and HOA in patients with diffractive and apodized diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses
Setting:
Narayana Nethralaya, Tertiary eye care centre, Bangalore
Methods:
46 Patients who underwent cataract extraction and multifocal intraocular lens implant with 28 AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® Apodized Diffractive Optic (IOL) and 18 TECNIS® Multifocal Lens underwent OQAS (optical quality analysis system, Visiometrics ) test and aberrometry using differential skiaskopy (NIDEK OPDIII).HOAs (internal , corneal ,total)were noted from NIDEK OPDIII. Objective scattering index(OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF), strehls ratio (SR) were noted from OQAS. Unpaired t-test was used for statistical analysis.
Results:
The mean (± SD) total and internal HOA in AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® group was 0.43µm (±0.71) and 0.45 µm (±0.86) respectively; in TECNIS® Multifocal Lens was 0.31 µm (±0.37) and 0.31 µm (± 0.52) respectively with no statistical difference (p-value <0.05) between the two groups. OSI, MTF, SR in AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® was 1.82, 30.08, 0.18 respectively and in TECNIS® Multifocal Lens was 2.21, 29.63, 0.18. There was no statistical difference between the means of two groups.
Conclusions:
Diffractive and apodized diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses have similar outcomes in terms of optical quality and HOA s.
