Purpose:
To report clinical experience with the APX pupil expander in patients with constricted pupil
Setting:
Meir Medical Center, Kfar-Saba, Israel
Methods:
The APX is a miniature pupillary speculum designed for eyes with small pupil or patients with intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS). Two devices are used in each eye, inserted through two opposite 19G cornel incisions
Results:
Fifteen eyes of 15 patients were operated using 2 prototypes of the device. The second prototype prevented iris slippage over the shaft of the device, occasionally seen with the first prototype. The APX maintained a wide (~6 mm) pupillary opening throughout the operation. Insertion and removal of the devices are remarkably fast and easy
Conclusions:
The APX pupil expander is clinically highly efficient in eyes with constricted pupil or floppy iris
Financial Interest:
... has significant investment interest in a company producing, developing or supplying product or procedure presented
