Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the changes in astigmatism after deep sclerectomy with collagen implant.

Setting:

Hospital Arrįbida, Porto Portugal

Methods:

25 eyes were submitted to deep sclerectomy with collagen implant (DS) and 10 eyes were submitted to combined surgery (phacoemulsification + DP). A phacoemulsification group (15 eyes) was used as control. Changes of power and axis of astigmatism were evaluated at 6 months using the K values.

Results:

DS group: 21 eyes had not changes of power or astigmatism axis; -0.50 D astigmatism was induced in 2 eyes (axis 65ŗ and 180ŗ); astigmatism increased -0.50D at the same axis in 1 eye; astigmatism decreased -0.75D at the same axis in 1 eye. Combined group: 7 eyes had not changes of power or astigmatism axis; -0.50D at 120ŗ astigmatism had been induced in 1 eye; astigmatism decreased -0.25D and changed 10ŗ in 1 eye; astigmatism changed 20ŗ in 1 eye with the same power. Phacoemulsification group: 10 eyes had changes ? 10ŗ or -0.5D (3 eyes 0ŗ and ? -0.5D; 4 eyes 5ŗ and ? -0.5D and 3 eyes 10ŗ and ? -0.5D).

Conclusions:

The results showed that the changes in astigmatism after DS are not significant and toric IOL could be implanted in glaucoma patients.
