Session Title: Toric IOL Outcomes
Session Date/Time: Monday 07/10/2013 | 16:30-18:30
Paper Time: 17:27
Venue: Auditorium (First Floor)

Purpose:
To determine the postimplant rotational and positional stability of the intraocular lens (IOL) EnVista Toric (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, New York).
Setting:
Instituto de Oftalmologķa Avanzada. Madrid
Methods:
Twenty IOLs were examined 24 h, 1 week and 1 month after implant. As baseline reference values, measurements were taken immediately after surgery. At the first two time points, TILT in the X and Y directions was determined using the Nidek OPD-Scan II instrument and the position of the lens axis was recorded. In the one-month visit, the factors assessed were IOL axis position and refractive state of the patient. All IOL placement surgeries were performed by the same surgeon and all postoperative tests were conducted by the same clinician.
Results:
Mean patient age was 69.14±4.6 (range 57-81 years). Mean IOL spherical power was 21.29±3.53 and cylinder power were 1.25D, 2.00D and 2.75 D (IOL plane). Compared to baseline, TILT in the X direction did not vary significantly at 24 h (p=0.3227), either at 1 week (p=0.1871). No differences were detected in TILT in the Y direction at 24 h and 1 week (p=0.4229, p=0.3326, respectively).
IOL rotation at 24 h was 1.46±1.10 degrees without reaching statistical significance (p=0.2166). Rotation values at 1 week and 1 month were 1.38±1.07 and 1.36±1.20 degrees, respectively, with no statistical significance (p=0.2313 and 0.3326).
15% of patients reported dysphotopsia 1 week after surgery, though this figure dropped to 0 % at 1 month postsurgery. No glistening was observed in any IOL.
With respect to the target refraction, postoperative refraction differed by -0.14± 0.10 D for the sphere and by 0.20 ± 0.22 D for cylinder power. All patients showed an improvement in vision relative to preoperative vision.
Conclusions:
The Envista toric IOLs examined here showed no significant tilting between 1 day and 1 week of surgery, remaining stable in the bag. In addition, good rotational stability was observed at 24 h, 1 week and 1 month postimplant. The refractive state of the patients in terms of both spherical equivalent and cylinder power also showed good stability.
