Session Title: Toric IOL Outcomes
Session Date/Time: Monday 07/10/2013 | 16:30-18:30
Paper Time: 17:00
Venue: Auditorium (First Floor)
First Author: : O.Findl AUSTRIA
Co Author(s): : N. Hirnschall S. Maedel M. Weber
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual performance and rotational stability of the Tecnis Toric one-piece IOL (AMO, USA) during the first 3 post-operative months.
Setting:
VIROS - Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria.
Methods:
In this prospective study, patients with age-related cataract and corneal astigmatism of 1.0 to 3.0 D measured with the IOL-Master 500 (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany) were included. Pre-operatively, rotating Scheimpflug scans (Pentacam HR, Oculus, Germany) were performed and the cornea was marked in the sitting position at the slit lamp. Patients recieved a single-piece toric hydrophobic acrylic IOL (Tecnis Toric, AMO, USA) by the same surgeon. Immediately and 3 months after surgery, retroillumination photographs were taken to assess the rotational stability of the IOL. Additionally, Autorefraction (Topcon, USA), subjective refraction, uncorrected and distance corrected visual acuity, keratometry, Scheimpflug and ocular wavefront (WASCA, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany) measurements were performed at the 3 months follow-up.
Results:
Thirty eyes of 30 patients were included in this study. Mean pre-operative corneal astigmatism was 1.8 D (SD: 0.5 D) and mean post-operative total astigmatism was 0.9 D (SD: 0.5 D). Post-operatively, higher order aberrations root mean square was 1.8µm (SD: 1.2) and Z4,0 was 0.4µm (SD: 0.2). Mean absolute difference between the IOL axis at the 3months and the 1hour follow-up was 2.7° (SD: 3.0°). The IOL rotation was <3° and <6° in 62% and 95% of all cases, respectively.
Conclusions:
The investigated IOL showed to be rotationally stable, showed excellent capsule bag performance and refractive outcome.
