Abstract Details

Purpose:

The study aims at measuring the VF-14-QOL scores in patients implanted with diffractive aspheric multifocal IOLs and correlating it with subjective measurements like contrast sensitivity (photopic) and an objective aberrometric finding like the total post operative spherical aberration.

Narayana Nethralaya Bangalore India

Methods:

Patients who underwent uncomplicated bilateral cataract surgery with diffractive aspheric multifocal IOL implantation were subjected to the VF-14-QOL questionnaire (VF-14) at the final post op visit (6 weeks). They also underwent photopic contrast sensitivity (CSV-1000) and total post-operative spherical aberrations (iTrace).

Results:

The mean age of the patients was 63.06+/-7.23 years. The patients with VF-14 scores less than and greater than 95 had statistically significant difference in the TPOSA (p=0.039). No significant difference was found between the groups in the contrast sensitivity. (3cpd p=0.18; 6cpd p=0.16; 12cpd p=0. 8; 18cpd p=0. 76)

Conclusions:

The post cataract quality of life scores correlates with the total post operative spherical aberration. Aiming for a suitable target post-operative spherical aberration in emmetropic patient’s can result in better quality of life after cataract surgery.
