Purpose:
AT LISA 909M toric Intraocular Lenses (IOL) (Carl Zeiss Meditec) is an advanced generation multifocal IOL preferably indicated for bilateral implantation. We evaluated results obtained implanting this multifocal toric IOL.
Setting:
C.M.A Centro Microchirurgia Ambulatoriale Via Donizetti 24 , Monza (Italy)
Methods:
We evaluated the results of eyes with cataract and corneal astigmatism (mean: 1.70 D ± 0.67 D) that received an AT LISA 909M toric IOL (Carl Zeiss Meditech). IOL calculations were performed using Z-CALC (Carl Zeiss Meditech) online calculator, taking into account the surgeon Surgically Induced Astigmatism (SIA). IOL axis alignment during surgery was performed using pictures of the limbal and iris pattern. Outcome measurements were subjective refraction, corneal astigmatism using ATLAS™ 9000 Corneal Topography System (Carl Zeiss Meditech), visual acuity, and contrast sensitivity using OPTEC 6500 (Stereo Optical Company, Inc.)
Results:
Our study included 31 eyes from 19 patients (mean age 62.19 years ± 14.37 SD). Preoperatively, mean Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) and Spherical Equivalent (SE) were 0.81 ± 0.20 and -0.46 D ± 5.07 D respectively. Mean corneal cylinder and mean refractive cylinder were 1.70 D ± 0.67 D and 1.38 D ± 1.01 D, respectively.
Two years postoperatively, mean distance monocular Uncorrected Visual Acuity (UCVA) and BCVA were 0.82 ± 0.21 and 0.97 ± 0.05 respectively. Mean post operative SE was 0.04 ± 0.73. Monocular near UCVA was 25.08/34. Mean residual refractive cylinder was 0.61 ± 0.28. Photopic contrast sensitivity was within the normal range for lower spatial frequencies.
Conclusions:
Clinical outcomes indicate that AT LISA 909M toric IOL (Carl Zeiss Meditec) is an effective multifocal design for the correction of corneal astigmatism, providing effective distance and near vision
