Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze uncorrected distance, intermediate, near visual acuity after monocular and binocular implantation of accommodative IOL Crystalens HD. Setting: Novosibirsk, Ophthalmologic clinic «Excimer».

Setting:

Ophthalmological clinic «Excimer» Russia, Novosibirsk

Methods:

35 eyes of 24 patients with monocular (13 patients) and with binocular (11 patients) cataract have been evaluated in this study. The reasons of monocular implantation were: high visual acuity of another eye, pseudophakia (monofocal IOL). Postoperative refraction, uncorrected distance, near, intermediate visual acuities, aberrations, accommodation, spectacle independence and patient’s satisfaction were analyzed. All results were compared with the pair eye. Follow-up period was 6-24 months.

Results:

All patients were satisfied after surgery. Uncorrected distance visual acuity 20/25 or better was achieved in 84% patients. More than half patients had uncorrected near visual acuity 20/40 (J3) or better, and intermediate visual acuity 20/30 or better. All patients did not wear glasses for daily activities. 4 patients (23.5%) use glasses for reading. High order aberrations didn’t increase. The reserve of the accommodation was 0.75 -1.0 D. Received accommodation results correlated with final refraction.

Conclusions:

The achieved results indicate that monocular and binocular IOL Crystalens HD implantation provides good uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision, and spectacle independence in pseudophakic patients
