Purpose:
Prospective study To compare the effect on visual quality (light scattering) and dry eye between FS-LASIK and ReLEx Smile procedure.
Setting:
-
Methods:
30 subjects (60 eyes) underwent FS-LASIK, 30 subjects (60 eyes) undewent Smile. OQAS device (Visiometrics, Medeuronet) was used to evaluate light scattering (OSI) and dry eye preoperatively as well as 1 month and 3 months after surgery.
Results:
At 1 and 3 months, the OSI index in the FS-LASIK group was significantly higher than in the Smile group. Furthermore, concerning the tear film using the OQAS, the results showed that the dry eye increased significantly in the FS-LASIK group compared to the second group.
Conclusions:
This study has shown that the ReLEx Smile procedure may result in less light scattering and dry eye than classical femtosecond lasik. This might be because Smile is a flapless procedure, inducing less topographic changes with biomechanical influence on spherical aberration induction and less inflammation with better corneal sensitivity after surgery.
