Purpose:
To show the results of ICL & T-ICL in stable cases of Keratoconus to correct their refractive errors.
Setting:
MAGRABI Eye Hospitals & Centres.
Methods:
ICL & T-ICL’s were used in different cases of suspicious corneas &/or stable keratoconus cases. Corneal Collagen Cross Linking (CCCL), was used when appropriate to stabilize the keratoconic cornea. After stabilization of their cornea, ICL or Toric ICL was used to correct their refractive errors. Uncorrected spectacle visual acuity (UCVA), refraction, manifest refraction (MR) corneal topography and specular microscopy were done preoperatively as well as postoperatively.
Results:
ICL and/or T-ICL’s were used in 41 suspicious corneas, 14 eyes of FFKC, 8 eyes with steep corneas, 2 eyes with PMD. They were also used in 4 eyes post ICRS, 3eyes after CCCL. One year results showed improvement of the best corrected visual acuity postoperatively as compared to preoperatively in all cases. 26.9% of the eyes gained at least one or more lines at their final result.
Conclusions:
ICL & Toric ICL’s are effective, predictable, safe & stable as a refractive procedure. They can be used when no other laser refractive surgery procedure can be used. Patients were satisfied with their quantity as well as quality of vision.
