Purpose:
To report on 5-year postoperative safety and efficacy outcomes with the posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses (ICL/TICL) implantation for super high myopia.

Methods:
90 high myopic eyes underwent ICL implantation, TICL implantation and femtosecond LASIC surgery with mean preoperative manifest spherical equivalent -18.50±5.77DS, -14.62±2.3DS and -9.94±1.9DS, respectively. Before, and 1, 3, and 6 months after, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 years after surgery, we assessed the safety, efficacy, stability, and adverse events of the surgery in eyes undergoing ICL/TICL implantation and femtosecond LASIC surgery. The main outcome measures include visual acuity, manifest refraction, intraocular pressure, wave-front aberration, corneal endothelial density, corneal topography and ACD.
Results:
Compared with F-LASIK group, the patients who was undergoing ICL/TICL implantation had less wave-front aberration. The safety index was 1.0 in ICL implantation group. No vision-threatening complications occurred during the observation period. No case had glaucoma or infection. The UCVA of all patients was significantly improved after surgery.
Conclusions:
Based on the clinical results of this study, ICL/TICL implantation was good in all measures of safety, efficacy and stability for the correction of high myopia throughout a 5-year observation period. In term of wave-front aberration, the patients undergoing ICL /TICL implantation had better visual quality compared with patients with laser surgery.
