Purpose:
Transepithelial PRK using this laser is a very effective treatment for refractive errors. We aim to demonstrate for our patients and colleagues its effectiveness and acceptability.
Setting:
: The study was carried out at The Sydney Eye Specialist Centre Sydney Australia. This is a private eye care facility owned and operated by ophthalmologists.
Methods:
About 60 patients who were treated since April 2011 were studied. We assessed pain suffered, healing time,time to return to work and duration of drop use. We also assessed patient satisfaction.
Results:
Our results showed that pain experienced was variable, all corneas were healed in 5 days, most patients returned to work in 1 week and drops were used for about 6 weeks. Overall patients were satisfied with their treatment.
Conclusions:
We concluded that Trans PRK is a very effective and accectable treatment. We also felt that the results of this small study were useful in helping patients which form of refractive laser treatment to have.
