Purpose:
To study safety and refractive and visual outcomes of Lasik in patients with induced ametropia after penetrating keratoplasty
Setting:
: Sv.Fyodorov IR&TC “Eye Microsurgery”, Krasnodar Branch, Krasnodar, Russia
Methods:
There were 5 patients (5 eyes) under study at the age from 26 to 40 years (mean age - 30,2±2,45), who underwent penetrating keratoplasty concerning keratokonus 2-5 years ago (mean - 3,4±0,82), post sutures removal follow-up was more 6 months. The corneal transplants in all eyes were clear, but because of the high degree induced astigmatism (mean degree was 6,95±1,17D), the patients had low uncorrected visual acuity (mean UCVA was 0,17±0,18) and problems with spectacle correction. With the purpose of the induced ametropia correction LASIK by T-CAT (“topography-guided ablation”) technology using ALLEGRETTO Wave EYE Q (Alcon) was performed.
Results:
No intraoperative and post Lasik complications were defined. During follow-up the state of corneal transplant didn’t get worse. The planned refraction ±1,0D was achieved in all eyes. The mean uncorrected visual acuity was 0,78±0,39, the mean corrected visual acuity was 0,9±0,42, which was 0,26 more than maximum corrected visual acuity before the operation.
Conclusions:
Excimer laser correction surgery by personalized technology of postkeratoplastic ametropia allows reducing considerably the amount of present refraction anomalies together decreasing the level of their irregularity demonstrating excellent visual acuity and stable safety outcomes.
