Purpose:
To overcom stage 4 haze post-surface ablation and gain a transparent cornea.
Setting:
: Kobe Clinic Hiroo, Tokyo, Japan
Methods:
Seven cases of advanced corneal haze underwent photorefractive keratectomy(PRK). 2 female and 5 male, age from 22-41, were treated with Epi-Lasik on both eyes primarily (spherical equivalent (SE) from -6.75D to -12.7D). The Prophylactic 0.02% mitomycin-C(MMC) was used for 30 seconds. Postoperative medication including steroid (at least 3M) and antibiotics eye drop was done. The follow up term was from 6M to 3y2M.
Results:
Waiting for the BCVA identified with tapering steroid therapy, all the case was treated with PRK and MMC completely. At 2-3Wk slitlamp microscope examination, only the faint opaque left found in a few corneas. With careful check up monthly, we could not recognize the haze formed again with low dose of steroid medication until 6Mo.
Conclusions:
Though the dense haze threatened patients’s visual acuity, waiting for the BCVA achieved and adding the PRK with MMC to correct the refractive error will be a good option.
