Purpose:
The aim of our study is to present the possibility of corneal astigmatism correction in patients with monofocal pseudophakia in one and cataract in the other eye.
Setting:
: Department of Ophthalmology Medical University of Silesia; Independent Clinical Hospital No 5, Katowice, Poland
Methods:
50-year-old man with corneal astigmatism who went standard phacoemulsification procedure with implantation of monofocal spherical intraocular lens in the right eye declared to have operation in the second eye. Astigmatism with the rule 3.8D in both eyes was assessed Patient was qualified to primary implantation of toric IOL (T-flex, Rayner, UK) into cataractous eye and supplementary toric IOL (Sulcoflex, Rayner, UK) intended for ciliary sulcus in his pseudophakic eye.
Results:
At last follow-up visual acuity improved from 0.02 to 1.0 in the right eye and from 0.6 to 1.0 in the left eye (Snellen charts). Refractive astigmatism was reduced respectively to 0.5D and 0.75D with minimal rotation of intraocular lens
Conclusions:
Long-term follow-up showed effective and stable correction of astigmatism after implantation of a foldable toric posterior chamber IOL in both clinical situations
