Purpose:
To evaluate first clinical outcomes of the use of Keratoprosthesis KeraKlear in patient with Lyell syndrome
Setting:
: Ophthalmology Clinic of Teaching Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady and 3rd Medical Faculty Charle sUniversity, Prague, czech Republic
Methods:
The authors present a single case report of 62 years old woman who underwent KeraKlear implantation due to Lyell syndrome. The implantation was performed by Corneal Intrastromal Implantation system - pocket maker. Peroperative complication s as well as postoperative visual acquity and postoperative findings were analyzed. Mean follow up time was 6 months.
Results:
Preoperative visual acquity was finger counting and increased to 0,3 postoperatively in 3 months follow up. There were no perioperative complications.
Conclusions:
KeraKlear is a new type of keratoprosthesis. It provides non penetrating surgery and eliminates the risk of rejection The use of pocket maker for implantation seems to be safe and relatively easy. Our patient show promissing and stable results with no signs of extrusion.
