Purpose:

To evaluate multifocal IOL implantation following cataract surgery. A refractive IOL (Rezoom™) was implanted in the dominant eye and a diffractive IOL (Tecnis® Multifocal) was implanted in the contralateral eye.

Setting:

: CMA Centro di Microchirurgia Ambulatoriale, Monza, Italy

Methods:

Fifty-two cataract surgery patients received a Rezoom™ in one eye and a Tecnis® in the fellow eye. Careful pupil evaluation and identification of the dominant eye was performed. Dominant eye with pupil diameter of 5.2 mm or less always received a Rezoom™.

Results:

3 years postoperatively, mean monocular UCVA was 0.79 ± 0.22 (Tecnis®), and 0.81 ± 0.20 (Rezoom™). Mean uncorrected binocular near vision was J2 , monocular near vision was better with Tecnis®

Conclusions:

Mix-and-Match diffractive/refractive approach provided highly satisfactory uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision. Contrast sensitivity (CS) exams demonstrated good CS results in patients implanted with multifocal IOLs
