Purpose:
The long unfolding time of hydrophobic acrylic IOLs is one of the main disadvantages of this material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and determine the IOL with the shortest unfolding time.
Setting:
: Department of Opthalmology, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland
Methods:
We used the following IOLs - Polytech Polylens Y10, Alcon AcrySof SA60AT and 1stQ Basis Z. We compared the unfolding time in standardized conditions - same storage and surgical room temperature, same surgeon and technique.
Results:
Although we did not find very significant differences between the IOLs, the overall results were not equal in the groups. The unfolding time of Polytech Polylens Y10 was shortest.
Conclusions:
The shorter unfolding time of Polytech Polylens Y10 might be considered an advantage when compared to other hydrophobic IOLs.
