Purpose:
To describe a case of late spontaneous in-the-bag dislocation of posterior chamber intraocular lens(PC-IOL) into anterior chamber in a patient without any predisposing factors.
Setting:
: 1) The Royal Eye Infirmary, Plymouth, United Kingdom
2) Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, United Kingdom
Methods:
Observational retrospective case report.
Results:
A 67 year old man who had undergone uneventful right cataract surgery in 2004, presented 6 years later with reduced vision in his right eye. He was found to have a dislocated in-the-bag PC-IOL into anterior chamber touching the corneal endothelium. Subsequently the lens was explanted and patient was put on waiting list for iris claw lens.
Conclusions:
Spontaneous in-the-bag dislocation of PC-IOL into anterior chamber is a very rare late complication of cataract surgery in absence of any predisposing factors such as pseudoexfoliation, trauma, prior vitre-retinal surgery or long axis. This could be managed by various lens exchange techniques.
