Purpose:

The paper shows review of patients’ results who were operated by method of facoemulsification and who had cataracta secundaria

Setting:

: Ophthalmology department, Health center, Krusevac

Methods:

Retrospective study includes patients operated by method of facoemulsification in the period from January 13th, 2009. to December 31st, 2009. on the Ophthalmology department in Krusevac. We followed their progress for 18 months. The study includes patients with implanted hydrofoil acryl lens and who were sent on Nd-yag laser because of cataracta secundaria 12 months after the surgery. Surgeries were done in local anesthesia with faco machine Millennium Bausch & Lomb, through corneal incision 2.8mm with the usage of viscoelastic material and front continuous capsulorex, bimanual I\A. All patients were postoperatively controlled and treated with the same local therapy.

Results:

Out of the total number of operated patients, 201, average age of 67 years of age, the youngest one was 40 and the oldest 86, 49.75% are men, and 50.25% are women. Cataracta secundaria, after 12 months from the surgery, appeared with 9 patients (4.48%) and they were sent on Nd-yag laser capsulotomy. BCVA after intervention is 1.0.

Conclusions:

Thanks to the method of facoemulsification that provides good hydrodisection and polishing of the complete last capsule, it reduces the appearance of the cataracta secundaria. The complication is easily solved and the function of the eye is quite good.
