Purpose:
To evaluate clinical outcomes in patients who underwent DMEK-S surgery due to endothelial failure after previous penetrating keratoplasty
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department Teaching Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady, 3rd Medical School, Prague, Czech Republic
Methods:
10 eyes of 10 patients were involved in retrospective interventional case series. All patients underwent DMEK-S surgery after failed PK. The graft was inserted by solution implantation technique. Following parameters were analyzed: preoperative and postoperative UCVA, BCVA, ECD and postoperative complications. Mean folllow up time was 2,3 years. RESULTS Five eyes had 1 previous failed PK, four patients had 2 previous failed PKs and 1 eye had 4 previous failed PKs. Mean preoperative UCVA and BCVA was 0,01 and increased to 0,31 postoperatively. 5 eyes were once rebubbled in the postoperative period and 2 eyes were at last indicated to repeated PK.
Conclusions:
DMEK-S under a previous failed PK is safe and effective method , useful alternative to a repeat standard PK.
