Abstract Details

Purpose:

Anatomical axis of the bulb mismatches visual axis. Nasal IOL decentration increases the quality of subjective visual perception especially in the MF IOL of rotatory symmetric design. Two years ago we have described the surgical method for a stable IOL nasal decentration.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology Regional Hospital Pardubice, Czech Republic

Methods:

Diffractive-refractive IOLs Hanita SeeLens-MF were implanted using 0,5mm nasal decentration in 17 patients (22eyes) with cataracts (5 bilateral and 12 unilateral implantations). Visual acuity (monocular UCVA and BCVA at far, binocular middle and binocular near distance using ETDRS charts for 6m, 80cm and 40cm) and contrast sensitivity (Pelli Robson Contrast Sensitivity Test and CSV1000) were measured after the surgery. Subjective satisfaction with a new quality of vision was determined using scale 1-5 (1=best result). RESULTS UCVA(BCVA) at far distance increased from 0,27 to 0.67(0.93), UCVA(BCVA) at near distance (40cm) was 0.89(0,95) and UCVA at middle distance (80cm) was 0.79. and the average values of CSV1000 were A4 B3,7 C4.2 D4.8. Hallo and glare were realising in most patients but only 2 feel bad with driving in the night. On the other hand all patients were subjectively highly satisfied both with unilateral and bilateral implantation (1,5).

Conclusions:

Multifocal IOLs of a rotatory symmetric design positioned into the centre of the pupil give the high quality of subjective feeling to patients.
