Purpose:
The diagnostic procedure is the unique opportunity of creating a correct relationship between a patient and his/her team of therapists (optometrists, orthoptists and ophthalmologists ) .We wish to plan an updated protocol of tests concerning visual optics to apply to clinical practice in refractive surgery
Setting:
Centro Oculistico Barbantini,Lucca,Tuscany,Italy
Methods:
We report the evolution of our diagnostic protocol before Intralasik operations for myopic refractive errors in the last 3 years. RESULTS The continuous upgrading of hardware and software of the computer assisted instruments devoted to refractive surgery was accompanied by some changinging in diagnostic procedures : accuracy and reproducibility were always of high level .
Conclusions:
No test is immortal. No revolutionary innovation may be introduced without the help of a preexisting clinical experience. Accuracy and reproducibility of tests always help in comparing the pre- and post- operatory conditions among different teams of surgeons and among different years of work in the same team.
