Abstract Details

Purpose:

Data of the quality network bellevue are collected since 2007. The record contains about 40.000 cases with 36 Items per patient. To get a reference number for the achieved quality an index is calculated fpr each item an patient, that gives on an aggregated level a quick overview of the quality for each surgery.

Setting:

The data are collected in the quality network bellevue (qnb). The network consists of the eye hospital bellevue in Kiel, Noth Germany an about 40 eye-practioneers in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Methods:

The eye-practioneers submit the results of the pre- and thress post-op examinations via a selfmade software tool. The data are collected about subjektive findings (i.E. Cornea), measured values (i.E.pressure, visus) and patients satisfaction. The data are transformed in notes according the german school-note system. With the transformed school-notes an indes is calculated (quality index bellevue). RESULTS The results since 2007 show an increase in the measured quality. It is obvious, that the data-based results that are given to each surgeon lead to a quality discussion. The surgeons learnt from each other and did change some aspects in their procedure. The quality increased for each surgeon, the percentage is between 8% an 13%.

Conclusions:

The measurement of quality with the following documentation and reporting leads to increasing quality in cataract surgery. Reporting systems and Analyzing tools are not standard tools in the controlling reports. Further research will be done to refine the quality index and to establish standard reporting tools on a browser orientated platform.
