Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the results of hyperopic patients treated with Supracor presbyLASIK algorithm for the correction of presbyopia.

Setting:

Istanbul Surgery Hospital, Istanbul-Turkey

Methods:

The study included 230 eyes of122 hyperopic patients treated with a Supracor presbyLASIK technique using a Technolas 217p excimer laser and follow-up from 1 to 12 months(Mean: 10,3± 2,1 month). Mean patient age was 50,2 years (range: 40 to 62 years), mean preoperative spherical equivalent refraction was +1.72 +/- 0.56 diopters (D) (range: +0.50 to +4.25 D), and mean spectacle near addition was +2.00 +/- 1,3 D (range: +1.00 to +2.75 D). Supracor presbylasik ablation pattern creates multifocal cornea, central for near and periphery for distance. Main outcome measures were uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) for near and distance, spherical equivalent refraction, contrast sensitivity, and corneal aberrations. RESULTS Postoperatively binocular mean UCVA was 0,80 +/- 0.27 for distance and 0.84 +/- 0.14 for near. Mean spherical equivalent refraction changed from +1,7 +/- 0,82 to -0.42+/- 0,82 D (range: -1.12 to +0.25 D).15eyes (6.5%) eyes lost 1 line of BSCVA for distance, and 8 eyes(3,8%) eyes gained 1 line of distance BSCVA. Corneal aberration analysis showed a slight increase in coma and high order aberrations(HOA) and decrease in spherical aberration.Corneal sensivitiy decreased on the first month but improved after 6 months.20 eyes (%8,6) had an enhancement treatment because of induced myopia, astigmatism or regression of hyperopia

Conclusions:

Supracor technique by Technolas 217p excimer laser is is a safe and efficient treatment for correcting hyperopia and presbyopia. Difference from other presbylasik treatments is the abcense of glare or halo side effects, and it is an aberration free technique in the pupil area.
