Purpose:
To discuss indications, timing and surgical outcomes of IOL AcrySof IQ implantation in children having surgery for congenital cataract.
Setting:
Eye Clinic " Den" - Sofia, Bulgaria
Methods:
Fifteen congenital cataracts (10 children) were operated by small incision phacoemulsification with primary implantation of a foldable IOL. Anterior manual CCC, primary posterior continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy were performed. Different viscoelastics, dyes, iris retractors and CTR were used.
Results:
Out of the fifteen operated patients, the youngest was two months old and the oldest 5 years old. In three of the operated eyes there was total cataract, in two anterior polar cataract, in four posterior (anterior) subcapsular cataract and in one eye persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous.
Conclusions:
AcrySof IQ IOLs allow easy and safe implantation. We achieved the desired in the bag fixation in these eyes. Combined posterior capsulorhexis, vitrectomy and AcrySof implantation prevent visual axis opasification. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
