Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the refractive and visual outcomes and patient satisfaction following wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for moderate to high hyperopia.

Setting:

Ultralse Laser eye clinics UK.

Methods:

43 consecutive moderate to high hyperopes where full refractive and visual outcomes were available at 6 months, after wavefront -guided LASIK were included in the study. All eyes were treated using the Bausch & Lomb Zyoptic platform. The electronic records were analyzed for corrected and uncorrected distance visual acuity(UCVA), post operative refraction, and documented subjective patient satisfaction.

Results:

The mean pre operative sphere was +3.62 diopters(D) SD +/- 0.59 range +3.00 - +5.00D. mean astigmatism -1.10D +/- 0.54 range 0 - -3.75D. Pre operatively 60% had logMar 0.0 or better best corrected vision (BCVA), 35% had logMar 0.10, and 5% had log Mar 0.18 BCVA. Six months post-operatively, refractive spherical equivalent was within +/- 0.5D in 66% of eyes. Of the eyes that had logMar 0.00 or better BCVA pre operatively, 73% had logMar. 0.00 or better UCVA. 86% of patients reported satisfaction with the visual outcome.

Conclusions:

This small study shows that wavefront guided LASIK for moderate to high hypermetropia yields satisfactory visual and refractive outcomes. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
