Lensectomy with vitrectomy and interior lens sub location were effective for treatment of cataract in patients with the alport syndrome

Purpose:

The Alport syndrome is one of the rare diseases. We had eight patients with the Alport syndrome with mean age of 24 years old. Some of the patients had the anterior polar Cataract and some of the patients had the posterior cataracts. The patientsÂ’ Vision were under 0.1 -0.2. They were treated with Lensectomy and anterior Vitrectomy

Guilan University of Medical Sciences

Methods:

The patients with age under 20 years old were treated with lensectomy. The patients with age above 20 years old were treated with Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses (PCLIOL).

Results:

PatientsÂ’ vision after surgery changed between at least 20/40 to maximum 20/25. Therefore, these treatments were effective for treating patients with the Alport syndrome

Conclusions:

Lensectomy with Vitrectomy and Intraocular Lenses were effective for treatment of the Alport syndrome. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
