Purpose:
To assess efficacy, safety and predictability after refractive lens exchange (RLE) in hyperopic patients who had bilateral implantation of an Acri.Lisa 366D diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) (Carl Zeiss Meditec).
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department, Hospital de Braga, Portugal
Methods:
30 eyes of 15 patients were examined after RLE who had implantation of an Acri.Lisa 366D IOL for the correction of presbyopia. Uncorrected and corrected near, intermediate and distance visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were evaluated at inclusion and postoperatively after a 3 month follow-up study.
Results:
Significant improvement after surgery in uncorrected near, intermediate and distance visual acuity was observed for all patients. No patients lost lines of corrected visual acuity. Mesopic and photopic contrast sensitivity were not significantly higher after surgery. All eyes had a postoperative spherical equivalent between -0,50 D and + 0,50D. One IOL exchange was performed 3 weeks after surgery due to an incorrect IOL power.
Conclusions:
Bilateral implantation of the Acri.Lisa 366D multifocal IOL provides a satisfactory full range of vision and is an effective procedure for correcting ametropia and presbyopia. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
