Purpose:
The study of visual aquity and the course of diabetic retinopathy after combined cataract surgery and injection of ANTI-VEGF agents in diabetic patients with quiescent proliferative diabetic retinopathy with no macular edema
Setting:
The study included 22 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy aged 62- 75 years of both sexes
15 men and 7 women
The preoperative visual acuity was of 2/ 20 to 8/20
The time monitoring the patients after cataract surgery was 18 months
Methods:
All patients were submited to succesfull cataract surgery followed by intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF agents.
Results:
The visual acuity improved in all patients
follow up of 18 months showed that :
- Only one patient developed macular edema after 6 months
- Patient was treated with subsequent monthly infusions of Anti-VEGF 4.5%
- 16 patients visual acuity improved 72,7%
- 5 patients visual acuity remained unchanged 22.8%
Conclusions:
The combination of cataract surgery and Anti-VEGF helps in the greater improvement of visual acuity and of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
