Purpose:
To evaluate the performance characteristics of excimer laser vision correction ablations driven by an advanced wavefront aberrometry system.
Setting:
Multi-Center
Methods:
iDesign aberrometer measurements offer a higher resolution and greater dynamic range to drive ablations. A prospective, multi-center, open-label, non-randomized, clinical trial was conducted at four sites in Canada.The iDesign was used to generate CustomVue treatments performed with the STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser. The flaps were created with the IntraLase femtosecond laser.
Results:
Preoperatively, the mean sphere was -3.86 ± 2.25 D (-0.50 D to -8.75 D) and mean cylinder was -1.21 ± 0.99 D (0.00 D to -5.25 D). The mean age of subjects was 35. For this interim analysis, 91 eyes were available at 1 month follow-up, and 85 eyes at 3 months. At 3 months, 78% of eyes were within 0.50 D of target, 76% achieved uncorrected vision acuity of 20/16 or better and 94% achieved 20/20 or better. Refractive stability was demonstrated between the 1 and 3 month visits where 98.8% of eyes had a change of not more than 0.5D. One eye demonstrated a loss of 2 lines of BSCVA that was resolved.
Conclusions:
The iDesign Advanced Wavefront-Guided System is a new system to generate CustomVue treatments. Additional follow-up is ongoing.
