Purpose:
To evaulate effects of torsional mode phacoemulsification on cornea endothelial cell count and central cornel thickness with/ without pseudoexfoliative eyes.
Setting:
Kayseri Training and Research Hospital Turkey
Methods:
We made up two group accordig to presence of pseudoexfoliatin syndrome. Eyes with pseudoexfoliation group comprised 36 eyes, without pseudoexfoliation eyes (normal) 36 eyes. All surgeries were performed by a single experienced surgeon with Quick-chop thechnique using Alcon OZIL IP system . 2.2 mm clear incision made. All I-intraocular lens were inserted into capsular bag with same injector system.Patient were examined on postoperative days 1,7, and 30. with specular microscopy.
Results:
Pseudoexfoliation eye group corneal endothelial cell loss was 13.8 % ( preoperative endothelial cell count 2315+/- 370 post operatively 1995+/-388) ; Central corneal thickness was 8.0 % increase ( preoperative 498+/-32 postoperatively 538+/- 46 micron) These values were respectively 9.1 % endothelial cell loss ( preop. 2498+/-396 post op. 2270+/- 398 ) and central corneal thickness was 3.1% up (preop 505+/-37 postop. 521+/-44).
Conclusions:
?n patients with pseudoefoliation syndrome compared with normal eyestorsional phacoemulsification induced more endothelial cell loss and more corneal swelling. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
