Purpose:
To diagnose and treat children with preventable blindness due to vit a deficiency in the underprivileged rural and tribal hamlets through our out -reach programs
Setting:
STUDENTS class 1st TO 10th GRADE In schools for the underprivileged rural and tribal areas of Maharashtra, India.
Methods:
Screening of all school children in batches for visual acuity, color vision test, ocular surface examination and undialated fundus examination.
Results:
Majority of these children had conjunctival xerosis, bitots spots,keratomalacia and few had night blindness
Conclusions:
Dietary intake of vit a. In natural form when introduced , when parents and children are educated and provided for with supplementary vit a. The incidence and prevalence was brought down to a large extent. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
