Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess visual system status in patients with cataract and astigmatism after Rayner M-flex T IOL implantation.

Setting:

Irkutsk Branch of S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution

Methods:

10 patients (13 eyes) in age of 22-64 years with cataract and astigmatism were examined in 1 and 6 months after Rayner M-flex T IOL implantation. Preoperative visual acuity with maximal sphere-cylindrical correction was 0.32+/-0.18. Initial corneal astigmatism varied from 1,25D to 3.0D (mean 1.85+/-0.25). Cataract was combined with hypermetropia in 43,4%.

Results:

After surgery on stable indices of keratometry, refractometry noted decrease of initial astigmatism in 4 times. It was 0.35+/-0.21D in mean. In 1 month after surgery visual acuity afar was 0.72+/-0.15, near – 0.47+/-0.12. It is important to emphasize that for patients some adaptation period was required for achieving maximal visual acuity. Most likely, that it is concerned with reconstruction of pathologic system and formation of new more effective optic system. Method of bynarimetry was used for directional correction of visual analyzer functions. In 6 months improvement of visual acuity at different distances was noted. It was afar 0.78+/-0.08, near – 0.55+/-0.07.

Conclusions:

Use of Rayner M-flex T IOL allows obtaining high functional results in early postoperative period. Achievement of maximal visual functions depends on patient’s intellectual facilities and positive emotional humour to optimal result. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
