Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcomes for patients operated with ReLEx® compared to patients operated with LASIK.

Setting:

Expert Vision Center, Strasbourg, France and Espace Nouvelle Vision, Paris, France.

Methods:

Of a total 220 patients, 110 (220 eyes) underwent ReLEx® and 110 (220 eyes) underwent LASIK for myopia with or without moderate myopic astigmatism. All ReLEx® procedures were performed with the femtosecond laser VisuMax® with SMILE technique. All LASIK procedures were performed with both femtosecond laser VisuMax® for the flap, and excimer laser Mel 80® (Carl-Zeiss-Meditec) for the photoablation.

Results:

The outcome measures included intra operative complications, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), safety and efficacy.

Conclusions:

Visual outcomes showed a greater efficacy in ReLEx® than LASIK at 6 months. The all-in -one femtosecond refractive procedure is less invasive and safer thanks to a shorter side-cut incision and a flapless technique. ReLEx® shows a greater stability in refractive change and corneal structure. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
