Purpose:
determine if lower exposure time (15 minutes) of uv-a for corneal crosslinking was as effective as standard exposure uv-a time (30 minutes) in the management of progressive keratoconus
Setting:
ophthalmology department school of medicine
Methods:
a prospective, double masked study included 23 eyes in each group. group 1: after 10 minutes of riboflavin impregnation, reduced exposure time of uv-a radiation (15 minutes) was used for crosslinking. the other group received same impregnation time, but standard 30 min uv-a exposure. visual, keratometric, topographic, aberrometric and corneal oct results were evaluated after 1 year
Results:
lower radiation time (15 min) crosslinking (delivered energy) into the cornea resulted in non statistical differences in va,corneal topo-aberrometric nor oct changes compared to standard 30 min uv-a radiation time. no adverse effects were present during the study.
Conclusions:
lower corneal exposure time (15 min) to uv-a were as effective as standard exposure time (30 min) in terms of visual rehabilitation and corneal changes at 1 year followup FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
